It all began with a single enchanting sentence, playfully directed at me a few years ago: "How can you champion women's rights while conforming to society's stereotypical image of them?" Little did I know, that innocent remark would ignite a profound introspection and lead me on a transformative path. As I engaged in countless discussions with donors, activists, and fellow feminists who shared my mission, I realized that my perspective on the matter was refreshingly unconventional. Working for an NGO dedicated to women's rights only intensified this awareness, pushing me to explore further. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, I made the courageous decision to part ways with the women's rights organization and enroll at the esteemed Lebanese American University (LAU). There, I immersed myself in the study of gender through a specialized diploma, complemented by a diploma in NGO management. It was within those hallowed halls that my conviction for a new approach to achieve gender justice within our community was solidified like never before. But it was not solely my professional aspirations that fueled this fervor. As a devoted mother to 15-year-old twins – a son and a daughter – my personal journey intertwined seamlessly with my mission. Countless moments arose that further kindled the fire within me. It was disheartening to witness close family members dismissing the idea of boys engaging in play with kitchen toys or baby dolls. More alarming still was the school director's defense of segregating girls during physical education classes, denying them the chance to participate in football games. Moreover, the challenge of finding stories, books, and online resources that challenged gender stereotypes and promoted equality was an ongoing struggle. Now, after years of accumulating valuable work experience and deepening my understanding of life, I am bursting with inspiration to pursue my dreams and contribute to a better community. My vision is to infuse the principles of gender justice into the very fabric of our society, starting with captivating and relatable cartoon characters, empowering messages, compelling series, and educational tools that foster creativity for children and youth. Join us on this captivating journey as we revolutionize the way we raise our children, empowering them to envision a world where gender stereotypes are shattered and true equality prevails. Together, we can create a brighter future for all. Much and more to tell, but I will leave the print of the new perspective to say it all over time.
